Kadha Recipe for Boosting Immunity : Herbs and Spices Indian Drink

Kaadha is a natural herbal drink prepared with herbs and spices, it is traditionally used in Indian homes since time immemorial. Kadha has been a part of every Indian home and every family has its own version of Kadhaa. This immunity boosting drink is consumed in chilling winters to provide warmth to the body especially given to those suffering from cough and cold. Kaadha gained a lot of attention in the light of Covid-19. It is prepared by boiling several herbs and spices in low flame till the de-coction is reduced to half. Continuous simmering infuses the water with all the properties of the herbs and spices. Kadha recipe is among the most sought after recipes for immunity boosting during this pandemic time.

There has been no claims and study that can assure that kaadha is a sure shot remedy to prevent Coronavirus spread but we have testimonies of several corona survivors who have shared in their story as to how drinking kaadha three times a day helped them during their stint with the virus.

Kadha is an Ayurvedic drink prepared with an array of herbs and spices. It is prepared with all natural ingredients and is believed to have immunity boosting ability.

Ingredients Used in This Immunity Boosting Kadha Recipe

Almost all the ingredients used in making Kadha are regular kitchen ingredients which are already present in your kitchen.

Ministry of Ayush have encouraged consumption of Kadha in its guidelines published for boosting immunity.

We will be using the ingredients suggested by Ayush Mantralaya along with a few more ingredients. This is the recipe of kadha that we are following to make kaadha at home for almost 4 months now.

Holy basil

Tulsi has Vitamin C and Zinc, both are helpful in boosting immunity.

Ginger

Ginger is packed with Anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties which may help in boosting immunity. If you are keeping up with the developments in wellness field you would have certainly heard of Immunity booster ginger shots.

Cloves

High amount of antioxidants in Cloves prevents the damage caused by the free radicals in the body.

Cardamom

Cinnamon

Sliced Turmeric Root

Turmeric is revered a the Golden Spice owing to its several health benefits. it is a powerful immunity boosters with it Anti-Oxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-bacterial properties. Curcumin is the most abundant and active compound present in Turmeric.

Lemon Juice

Lemon is again a rich source of Vitamin C. Adding few drops of Lemon juice to kadha will also balance the spicy taste.

Jaggery

Jaggery is optional in this recipe. I have noticed that adding jaggery to Kadha makes it more soothing to the pallet.

How To Make kadha at Home : Kaadha Recipe

Take 500 ml. of water and add in the herbs, spices and Jaggery to it.

Keep keep in high flame to bring it to boiling temeperature

Reduce the flame to lowest, cover the pan and let it simmer for atleast 20 minutes.

Strain and serve the kadha.

Ingredients

  • Water 500 ml
  • Holy Basil (Tulsi) 5-6 Leaves
  • Ginger Shredded 1-2 tsp
  • Turmeric Root Slice (1-2 inch) 2
  • Black pepper Corns- 8-10
  • Cloves -5
  • Cinnamon stick 2"
  • Green Cardamom : 3
  • Jaggery 2 tsp

Instructions

  1. Take 500 ml of water in a pan
  2. Add the herbs and spices
  3. Bring to boil in high medium flame
  4. Cover the pan and simmer the Kadha for atleast 20 minutes
  5. Check after 20 minutes, the decoction must have reduced in quantity now.
  6. The color of the decoction will also be darkened.
  7. Strain and serve
  8. Add 3-4 drops of Lemon juice (fresh) and enjoy the sips of your Kadha.
